Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Alan Silva serves as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). With 25 years of experience in higher education, as a professor of English, associate dean, Dean of Arts and Sciences, and provost, Dr. Silva has a proven track record of providing students with excellent learning experiences, as well as research and scholarship opportunities in the Catholic intellectual and liberal arts traditions.

As provost, Dr. Silva has broad oversight over all academic programs, and is committed to academic excellence, inclusivity, and social justice. His leadership is guided by the university mission, focused intensely on the student experience and student learning outcomes, and carried out through collaboration, with fellow administrators, staff members, and with the faculty, through the approved structures and processes of shared governance.

A first-generation college student who originally hails from California, Dr. Silva has been a professor and administrator in Minnesota, Virginia, and Indiana, prior to making his home in San Antonio.

Outside Interests

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Silva is an active participant in his Catholic faith, and has served on a variety of advisory councils throughout his career. He runs daily and periodically takes part in 5k, 10k, and 15k races. He is a voracious reader of fiction and poetry, an avid film watcher, a sports enthusiast, and an audiophile with a wide variety of musical interests.
