Areas of Expertise

Dr. Robles is a health-equity-focused, community-engaged scholar with research expertise in mental health and substance use in Hispanic populations, specifically Mexican-origin communities. In 2023, she established the Health Equity Research and Observation lab. Her research agenda focuses on understanding the internal and interpersonal factors that shape health beliefs and influence help-seeking behaviors. Additionally, her research focuses on the contextual and systemic factors that influence patient outcomes, including access. She translates this knowledge into culturally grounded interventions and prevention programs. Through her experiences, Dr. Robles is also skilled at leading interdisciplinary research teams and regional initiatives focused on strengthening and promoting health equity.

Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, Dr. Robles believes students learn best through supported and mentored experiences that empower them to apply and integrate knowledge and develop skills in community-based projects. She is committed to promoting diversity in science and, through her research lab, provides research mentoring and training to students at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.

Outside Interests

Dr. Robles is an ally for substance use and mental health recovery. She serves as a board member and volunteer for organizations across the state.
