Curriculum Vitae

Areas of Expertise

My areas of expertise include serving adult clients with neurogenic disorders and their families to help them understand their communication disorder and to help them functionally communicate in their living or working environments after having a stroke, traumatic brain injury or a progressive neurological disorder such as primary progressive aphasia.  I also work with children from Birth to 4 years of age who have communication disorders secondary to genetic syndromes, neurological disorders and/or have an autism spectrum disorder.  I am a clinician and clinical educator who strives to bridge the love of learning to applying what is learned.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is guided by starting with what students know then transitioning into learning new concepts and ideas. I believe that it is important to get to know students in terms of their generation, culture, communication, and style of learning. I strive to set up learning experiences that start with how the material is applicable in their daily life then transition to how it is clinically applicable when serving clients and their families.  Overall, I believe it is important to facilitate how students learn and let students take the lead in their learning while guiding them to achieve the learning objectives established for class or practicum experiences. I strive to share my love of learning and working collaboratively with students to make the learning process more fun, authentic, understandable, and applicable.

Outside Interests

I enjoy spending time with family. I always enjoy most outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and fishing, because these activities help me relax, reflect, and reset for other important aspects of my life. While I enjoy the outdoor activities, I also enjoy relaxing by playing the piano. I like to craft using various textures and mediums to come-up with different types of art for decorating or gift giving. I am grateful for each of my hobbies because they allow me the spiritual, physical, and mental rejuvenation to find and share joy with others around me.
