James Mallard - Communication Sciences and Disorders - Spring 2024 Senior Spotlight
May 01, 2024
James Mallard
Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders with a Minor in Psychology
Campus Activities: National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), Delta Alpha Pi (DAPi)
honor society for ADA students, Survivor Representative at Alamo Head Injury Association.
Impact of OLLU: Our Lady of the Lake University has impacted my life by being a part of my spiritual journey in academics as a non-traditional student.
An important life lesson learned: The biggest life lesson that I have learned is to practice self-acceptance by not giving up even if I am struggling. I learned this method from the support at the Accessibility Services Office from Janet Hupel and the other staff in that department.
Plans for the future: What I hope to do with my degree and experiences from OLLU is to help others who are going through what I went through with a language disorder caused by damage to the brain called aphasia. I am hoping to get accepted to the graduate program at UT Health.
