OLLU students earn Lone Star Emmy nominations
Nov 06, 2020
OLLU Lakefront Newscast students and faculty were nominated for a Lone Star Emmy Award for best “College – Newscast.”
The Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Student Production Awards cited the work of Danielle Ojeda, anchor; Amanda Brown, adviser; Jeremy Falkner, reporter; Santiago Reyes, editor; Victoria Razo, reporter; and Elyssa Tijerina, reporter.
Reyes also received an Emmy nomination for “Tragedy Strikes El Paso” in the category, “College - News: General Assignment – Serious News.”
OLLU did not win in either category when the awards were announced on Oct. 31. However, Amanda Brown, clinical professor of Mass Communication Production, remained proud and upbeat.
“We will keep trying,” she said.
This year’s nominations extend a proud tradition. Dozens of OLLU students have earned Lone Star Emmy nominations. Arantxa Loizaga (ʼ12), Sarai Bejarano (ʼ12), Angelica Casas (ʼ15) and Gianna Rendon (ʼ15) won Lone Star Emmys for work they produced as undergraduates.
Altogether, OLLU students and alumni have won 37 regional Emmys, one national Emmy and a Peabody Award.
